This thread is specifically for any and all conversations in regards to the revamp of the Site Application form and the current Credit System.
As sorting out the application form will take a fair bit of space, I’ll start with that and incorporate my idea for the credit system as I go along. I’ll start by posting up the current application form for this site:
Now I’ll tell you, on a Word document that stands at roughly 3 pages long. The prospect of filling out a 3 page site application, knowing that when you’re finished (as we specify as much detail as possible) it could be anything from 5 pages to 10 pages long; I’m guessing can be quite daunting for new members, to say the least. The problem is I like how detailed our application is, and reading through the finished and detailed profiles afterwards is always exciting, but that doesn’t stop the application form from being counterproductive.
Now I think the main bulk of the profile, besides the Character History (which we can’t really get rid of or shorten) are the abilities/attacks. I think it would be a better idea to scrap our current system down to the very minimal and then rebuild it – this links very closely to my idea on the credit system.
I was thinking, instead of the different Classes of abilities/attacks that we instead simplify it to Powers and Abilities ; Powers meaning the main bulk of a persons powers and the abilities being anything that strings off from that main bulk, or anything that is lesser. We don’t charge credits for the moves but instead just monitor how many they put down, asking them to weaken over powerful ones or take some down if there are too many of they don’t make sense.
My idea for the credit system was the scrap it completely. I think the system is an outdated one. It started as a way of monitoring how people bought their abilities and extra characters, as well as being a way of rewarding people for activity and writing skill in sagas, but I think it was a burden in many ways. It hampered people from character development – or from getting a new character if they needed a break from their current one. It also became a chore for the staff to hand them out and decide who got how many.
That’s why I think this time we should base the entire site on a more “character development” level rather than what it had been previously. Meaning, if a person writes a decent thread about learning a new ability (for example) then we grant them that ability. And if they want a new character, then we set a post limit that they have to achieve before they can have it.
I’ll stop here, because I’m afraid it’s all starting to mix together and make no sense. Tell me what you think on what I’ve put forward, by all means add to it and put forward any of your own ideas.
As sorting out the application form will take a fair bit of space, I’ll start with that and incorporate my idea for the credit system as I go along. I’ll start by posting up the current application form for this site:
