Character Information:
Character's Name: Garoten Reklor
Character Race: Half Dragonian/half V'alcan - Garoten's father, it has been discovered, was not Dragonian. Instead, he was a member of a rare race from the land of Faradoane. Garoten's hybrid nature has given him a strength and speed beyond that of a normal Dragonian, as well as an unbelievably strong skeletal structure. The natural healing abilities on both sides of his family tree have combined to make Garoten a veritable juggernaut in the face of raw physical injury. The V'alcan connection between emotion and power is present in Garoten, but significantly less so than in a pure V'alcan. Unaided flight, impossible for his father's race, comes easily to Garoten, as does the manipulation of ki. All in all, the combination of races is a fairly beneficial one for him.
Gender: Male
Hair Color/Style: Brown, short and spikey, always neatly parted on the left.
Eye Color: Deep blue - changes to green when in times of intense emotion.
Age: 22
Height: 5 feet, 10 inches
Weight: 85 pounds
Aura Color: Dark blue
Attire: Loose fitting dark blue pants, a white tunic with a blue belt, and long dark blue overcoat with a silver symbol etched on the back. He always wears around his neck a small medallion, engraved with an eagle with two dark blue stones for eyes, handed down to him from his father. Also always with him is a six foot staff that appears to be highly polished wood.
Other Physical Features:
Garoten is shorter than average Dragonians, lighter, and with a very muscular build - all traits from his V'alcan side. His eyes always carry a very serious look, even when he's having fun. Also, when he experiences high levels of emotion - any emotion - his eyes change from blue to green. A light scar runs from just under his left eye to just under his left ear, a remnant of the battle before the Great Calamity that began the seven years of peace.
Abilities:
Class I:
- Hide Power Level
- Sense Opponent's Power Level
- Flying
- Ki Ball/Ki Beam
- Rapid Fire
- Energy Shield
- Zanzouken
- Telepathic messaging
Original Class I:
- Super Rapid Healing: The combination of Dragonian and V'alcan physiologies has given Garoten a level of healing beyond either race. Healing is instantaneous in nearly every case, even when he is unconscious.
- High Speed Training: The intense training by Nishaio Shimata helped Garoten to develop his latent V'alcan capabilities to the maximum potential. Though he'll never be as fast as Nishaio, his speed is tremendous, allowing him to traverse great distances in a matter of minutes or react to attacks almost before they happen.
- Twinheritage Staff: With the touch of a hidden switch, the ends of Garoten's wooden staff drop off, revealing a two-foot blade on each end. Another switch separates the staff in the middle, turning it into two three foot swords. One blade is made of the incredibly hard, always sharp Zelfor, a gleaming white V'alcan metal, and the other blade is the silver-green Mikael, an equally strong Civaen metal.
Class II:
Realm-bending - The ancient art of the V'alcan people which allows them to manipulate the environment around them (i.e. altering gravity, channeling lightning, creating illusions, firing energy blasts, etc.). Though the skill is extremely versatile, it is also extremely draining, and even a V'alcan can only use it for a limited time. Through years of training by his two mentors, Garoten has become fairly proficient in this ancient skill:
1. Air Hammer - With his focus on the air around his opponent, Garoten throws open-palmed strikes. The air near his target then intensifies and follows the movements of his hands, pummeling the target with blasts of pressurized air capable of doing just as much damage as a solid punch. The practical range is fairly short -about twenty feet. For a longer range, he has to strike much slower to allow the power to build.
2. Scattered Flame - Garoten brings his closed fists in to his chest, then throws his arms out straight, palms open. A number of fireballs shoot forward in a shotgun style blast. The number, size, and power of the fireballs depend on how long he has had to 'charge' the blast with his hands in.
3. Burning Winds – With his left hand, Garoten unleashes a stream of flame. With his right hand, he spins off a whirlwind that catches the fire and rages across the battlefield. The size of the whirlwind depends on how long he can focus on building it up, but once unleashed the attack continues regardless of Garoten's condition. This is usually for a few minutes at most, as it will burn itself out without constant management.
4. Wind Spear – Garoten extends the index and middle fingers of his left hand, palm up, and lays the same fingers of his right hand across them. With a flick of the right wrist, he lets fly a blast of wind that compresses on the lead edge into a fine point. The minor energy required to use this technique means he is able to release a rapid barrage of these spears.
5. Ignition – By pointing and then snapping his fingers, Garoten can trigger an energy release in everyday items or even plants or smaller life forms. The size of the explosion depends on the item ignited. (A can of gasoline, for example, will make a considerably larger boom than a grasshopper.)
Ki Explosion - Thanks to his unusual knack for manipulating ki, Garoten can concentrate his energy and then release it in a large blast for a wide radius. This move is useful when he is surrounded or just needs some breathing room, but it takes a few seconds to rebuild a reserve of energy after use.
Kaze-Bakuha – Garoten's own signature technique, it appears to be a standard blast of ki. The blast itself is damaging enough, charged and fired like a Kamehameha, but the secret is the wind control infused into the beam. While Garoten charges the beam, the air in front of him is also compressing, and is released forward a split second before the blast itself. Unwary enemies, or first-time victims of the blast, are hit by the air like a freight train, leaving them stunned and vulnerable to the beam following in its wake. To perform the move, Garoten holds his left hand straight in front of him, palm out, and brings his right back by his side to charge. When he's built the level of power he wants, he brings the right hand up to meet the left and fires.
Class III:
Gaurdian's Gate – One of the secret techniques of the Tenju, taught only to those of the Blue (Gaurdian) rank. Garoten utters an ancient phrase that translates: “May only those of my own choosing pass.” A dome-shaped field projects outward from his position, impenetrable by ki, magic, or physical forces of any kind. Only those people or items Garoten calls upon may enter the field as long as it remains under his power. The power required to initiate the shield is immense, but once activated it becomes self-sustaining as the energy of anything that attempts to force its way in is harnessed and used to fuel the shield itself. Therefore, the more attack he is under, the stronger his shield becomes. The Gate is the ultimate defensive technique, but there is no real offensive value.
Other Information:
Personality: Garoten is a very subdued, serious young man who takes his rank and responsibility extremely seriously. He holds right and wrong, loyalty, and courage in the highest regard, and goes out of his way to always do the noble and proper thing, in any situation. Having spent his early life helpless and sick, he remains driven by an ambition to become powerful enough to protect his world from any evil that should arise. Even among the few remaining warriors on the planet, Garoten is generally seen as being too serious about everything. Some warriors enjoy battle, Garoten does not. He sees anything worth fighting over as far too serious to be entertaining. His constant sobriety and perceived lack of a sense of humor have a way of irritating others in his company, and he's gained a reputation for being self-righteous and judgmental. The only individuals he considers friends are Falkan Reval, Nishaio Shimata, and Tidus Revok.
Origins:
Garoten's father, known only as Reklor, showed up mysteriously as a child in Esperanza, the capital of Nasrad. A Dragonian couple took him in and raised him, and nothing was ever learned of Reklor's past. Some traumatic event had destroyed his memories. Over time, Reklor grew into a mighty warrior, and decided to devote his life to using that power to protect others. At eighteen, he signed on with the Esperanzan Police Force, and soon after met a young Dragonian woman named Alyana. Two years later, the two were married. In that time, Reklor's reputation had become legendary in Nasrad. Life was only getting better as the happy couple discovered they would soon be having a baby, but only a week before the child was to be born, Reklor was killed by a rogue Saiyan attempting to escape from prison. Alyana's world was shattered, but when her baby was born, she turned her grief into devotion to her new son. Life was hard for the two, but they managed to survive in the city. Young Garoten seemed normal enough at first, but around his tenth birthday, he began having major health problems. While other kids his age passed around a minor virus, Garoten would spend weeks in bed, deathly ill. Desperate, Alyana began pumping all her resources into medical help for her son, and it wasn't long before the small family slipped from modest living to abject poverty. Still Alyana fought to afford care for Garoten, who himself struggled with a desire to help his mother thwarted by his sheer physical inability. Doctor after doctor failed to find any cause for the boy's problems, and the bills piled higher and higher. Four years later, not long after his fourteenth birthday, Garoten's life was changed forever. One cold winter night, while his mother carried him home from yet another late night hospital visit, they were attacked by a back alley gang of thugs. Just when all hope seemed lost, a mysterious man wielding a sword and shrouded in a black cloak appeared and single-handedly beat the entire gang senseless. With no introduction and no desire for reward, the man was gone as quickly as he came. Garoten, barely conscious, knew his life and his mother's had been saved, and once again he had been powerless to do anything about the danger.
Months passed. The family of two narrowly survived a disastrous Saiyan invasion, and word spread of a small band of warriors that had managed to defeat the invaders against all odds. One of the heroes of the battle matched the description of the man who had saved them that night, and soon a name came with the stories...Falkan Reval. Garoten had found his hero, and in the wake of the invasion he made a promise: Someday, he would be as brave and as strong a fighter as his father and Reval had been, and he would save people, even the world, just the same as they. The world tournament in Esperanza afforded the boy another opportunity to see his hero in action, and once again the visitor to Dragonia changed Garoten's life. Reval quietly left his fifth-place earnings with Alyana, allowing her to afford the help Garoten had needed his whole life. Finally doctors found the cause of his constant ailments...a mutated immune system. Weeks of tests later, they made a shocking discovery. His immune system wasn't mutated at all...it just wasn't Dragonian. Over time, it was discovered that Reklor had not been a Dragonian at all. He was of an amazing race found nowhere on Dragonia or even any of the other nearby planets. Most incredible of all, Falkan Reval was from the same race - the V'alcans. Eventually Garoten's weakness was treated, and he was able to function even better than a healthy Dragonian, and begin the training he had always desired to do. Now all he needed was a teacher...and nobody would do but Falkan Reval himself.
He set out to track down the legendary warrior, but his expedition very nearly met an immediate end when he became lost in the desert outside Esperanza. Weak, hungry, and under attack by a dozen Scorpion-like monsters, Garoten collapsed only a few days after his departure. Fortunately, another of Dragonia's Legends had been watching him all along. Nishaio Shimata intervened and rescued the boy from the desert. When Garoten finally awoke, he found himself alone in a strange jungle with a silent captor who proceeded to torment him for three months. When the man finally saw fit to speak, he revealed that he was Nishaio Shimata, a warrior of an order called the Tenju, and that he intended to train Garoten into that same Order. Although the man wasn't the teacher he'd been searching for, Garoten submitted to Nishaio's training (he didn't really have a choice anyway), and for two months the two remained hidden away while the secrets of the ancient Tenju Order were passed from teacher to student. Finally Nishiao announced that Garoten was ready, although he wouldn't say what for, and the two departed the jungle and headed for the mountains of Bedoe. Once there, Garoten discovered the biggest surprise of his life.
He had been trained to defeat Falkan Reval in battle. Nishaio had discovered himself to be evenly matched with the V'alcan Warrior, but was committed to his destruction as an accomplice to the evil android Pravent. Garoten was meant to be Nishaio's ace, the factor that would give him the advantage over his nemesis. At first Garoten refused to fight, but when Falkan recognized the boy as the one he had helped so long ago, he insisted on taking him on. The battle lasted for an three days, interrupted only by a sudden 'dream' that overtook the two Tenju and allowed the V'alcan to escape. The battle that ensued a short time later found all three fighting together against the Saiyan menace and barely escaping the massive flood that resulted. Falkan and Nishaio finally resolved their differences and, realizing the changes that were coming in the world around them, worked together to train Garoten to be the Gaurdian of Dragonia's future.
After a year, Falkan departed, claiming he had one last thing to do before he left Dragonia forever, and Nishaio continued training him alone. Three years later, a message came from Reval bidding the two farewell and asking them to take on a new student, a young boy named Tidus Revok. Four years were spent training Tidus, during which time he became like a younger brother to Garoten. While the two could become a powerful combination, their extremely different personalities more often led to arguments and conflict. Realizing this, Nishaio ended their training by bestowing Garoten with the rank of Gaurdian, indicated by his blue coat, and tasked with protecting and ensuring the continued peace of their world. Tidus he made a Warrior, with a red cloak and the mission of seeking out and destroying evil by whatever means necessary. The three then parted ways as friends and equals, no longer teacher and students. A few months later, Nishaio appeared at Garoten's home. The fastest warrior on Dragonia seemed, for the first time ever that Garoten knew of, afraid. He explained the appearance of a man known as Markis and left hasty instructions for Garoten to track down and follow Tidus, taking extra care to protect a scroll the boy was carrying. Garoten set out immediately upon this mission, finally catching up to his younger friend in Gaurdinia...
