In an effort to make the regular OOC section popular again, what better than a music topic? Anything's welcome, just try to keep debates civil and not criticize too much.
Anyways, I recently found a copy of Maxwell's MTV Unplugged performance, it's just amazing. I must say though...I'm a bit pissed off that it doesn't receive recognition it deserves, especially when both Lenny Kravitz and Ricky Martin's performances get significantly more attention; and were featured on the "best of" specials.

You know, I've always been a massive fan of Lenny Kravitz. Anyone who basically plays all the musical instruments used in their songs, writes their own music, lyrics too, edits and produces their own songs too is a VERY talented person in my book - not to mention most of his music rocks too.
You know what though, lately I've been listen to R.E.M. - Shiny Happy People a LOT. I like the song, I think it's a great old track, but I have no idea why it's been on my mind so much lately!

Another thing, Muse, I NEED THEIR NEW ALBUM!
I love Muse, think they're just brilliant. They're different, but modern, and plain cool. I've heard good things about their new album, so I need to get it.
Anyone else into Muse?

I wasn't really questioning their talent, just their live performances, specifically the Unplugged ones. While Kravitz's wasn't horrible, I just found it average; Martin's on the other hand....eh, I'll say that's garbage until the day I drop. ;D
To me personally, it really says something about an artist when you're live performances, despite what style you use, flat out beat the studio versions of a song. That's what this did. I'm just saddened that it doesn't get the respect it deserves. I don't know if it's because the Unplugged brand was more associated with Rock, and Maxwell's more of a R&B/Soul artist, but it's not something you see too often. Not in the past 12 or so years anyway.
As for R.E.M., I've been listening to them as well. Don't know why...just have been in that mood, I suppose...

Florence and the Machine REALLY hit big over here. I mean it's not like they're topping charts or breaking sales records, but they got great reviews and everything. Personally? I don't like them. I don't see the big deal. They're not catchy, the songs just sound weird and she's not that great of a singer - though, on the other hand, she is different, and thats what some people like!
You know who I love? Paolo Nutini. He's first album was BRILLIANT. He's just bought out his second album and he's taken such a big change in direction. It's more folk than the stuff he was doing on his first album, but it's just fantastic. You can tell how much he's matured, not just in his singing but in his song writing too. It's real music, unlike some of the noise you hear on the radio! lol
