In Address To All Members In Legends of Dragonia--
Usually, when someone makes a message with the words, “Addressed To So And So,” I always find that the note always follows with some grave news from the one who writes it. Typically, it involves an apology, followed by reasons-- although those who see the glass as half empty typically like to call these excuses-- and a hopeful prayer for good things to come. Usually, when one of these messages occurs, one of two things will happen: either the person who wrote it will either come back and resume life like nothing ever happened, or they will disappear some time shortly after, only to return sometime later and repeat their message. I know this theory well, because I have been guilty of this myself.
I believe the first time I read a message of this kind of importance was when Neojiisu, a fellow administrator and friend of mine, was leaving on a missions trip for two years. Many of you should already be well aware of this, because I know most of you have been-- at least at one time-- a member of Forced Heroes. In his departure, Neo left everything that he had brought together over a period of almost four years into the caring hands of three people he trusted, and he left the RPG world.
To this day, I cannot think back on the name Neo without remembering some of the good memories this man gave me; whether or not you agree with me, he was a legend in the writing world, and I hope that when he returns from his leave, he will someday come back and see the changes that have happened in the Role-Playing world-- Forced Heroes, Legends of Dragonia, and every RPG in-between.
Before I go too far off, bantering about a reminiscence of days gone by, I would like to go back to what I was saying prior: There have been a lot of messages going around recently from administrators of different sites, all of them talking about problems that are occurring on their own. Some apologize for the lack of activity; others criticize their own actions in the past-- mistakes they have made, or their absence because of things that are happening in the real world.
I have recently felt, in light of some of the more depressing messages I have seen, it was time that I made my own address to the people that I have watched over in the two years. Before I begin-- and before anyone gets the wild and twisted idea locked in their head that I think a few of you are already contemplating-- I am NOT writing this message, intending to slip in an “Oh, I’m planning to leave Legends of Dragonia in order to pursue my life,” or a “It’s time to shut this baby down; we’ve had some good times, but it’s time to move on.” To everyone who already has had this thought lodged in their head: Erase it. Now. Thank you.
In fact, rather than you all thanking me forbeing the all-powerful Aiedan, who you should homage and want to father your child being the founder and current owner of Legends of Dragonia, everything should be the other way around: I should be thanking you. Yes, you, in the back of the room, wearing the sunglasses and the baseball cap backwards. It because of people like you that I always wake up every morning and think, What can I do to further improve Legends of Dragonia?
Not to toot my own horn, or say that I am better than you or anything, (You all should hopefully know me well enough by now to know that I hate doing something like that-- although, I am always busting Ryan’s hump that I’m the better writer, and Kilix says that my ego is large than both a blue whale and Wales...but neither of them count.) I have always felt that people respect me because I am a website owner, an administrator, and because of the person I am. I have done the same in respect for Neojiisu; I once would have jokingly called him a god, just because of how good of a person he was/is. I have a quote another person I respect, and this was something that I thought you all should hear. I have changed a few words around here and there, but I find that the words will have the same effect for a writing community than they did on ZeldaBlog:
So, in conclusion to what I have just said, what difference does it make to you that I run the website? Should that instantly give me more respect than anybody else? Should I get more respect than-- say, Rizuk, or Hakuto, or even Ryan-- because I runthe godly and all-powerful Legends of Dragonia a community where people come together and do what they love to do?
The answer is quite simple: Of Course Not.
I am going to change the subject for a moment, simply out respect for a few friends of mine. This goes right along with the theory of, “Is Aiedan any better than us because he runs an uber cool RPG?” If you feel that you are too important to hear something like this, I ask that you look for the next set of (* * *) and keep reading. Although you may not want to heed me criticizing what people say about others, I do want you to get the real message of why I am writing this post.
As everyone knows, there as always been a friendly bit of competition between Legends of Dragonia and Forced Heroes. When I first began this wonderful RPG, my first dream was to make a website that could be uttered in the same breath as Forced Heroes. I never would have fathomed that one day, a few years later, I would be able to say that I succeeded in this dream. Forced Heroes and Legends of Dragonia are like sister sites to each other, [shameless plug]and if you have never been around on Forced Heroes, I think you should consider signing up. I used to play there, and I always had fun writing over there.[/shameless plug]
When I first started up, I mimicked a lot of the concepts on Forced Heroes to produce the final form of Legends of Dragonia. (OH MY GOSH, LEGENDS OF DRAGONIA IS EVOLVING!!) In this time that I did this, I always had kept good conversations with Neojiisu. I like to consider the two of us to be good friends, and not because we were both administrators of successful RPG’s.
To this day, even though Neo has moved on to bigger and better things-- though, I am quite sure he is going to return, someday-- I have made other good friends through the administration in Forced Heroes. I will IM Ceres whenever I see her online, and even though I have never spoken to them as much as the other members of Forced Heroes’ staff , I would like to say that I get along well with Musashi and Alykoth.
But every once in a while, I would hear a few words from Ceres that would make me feel slightly ashamed, and then ponder a bit on the subject. Her and I rarely do talk about Legends of Dragonia or Forced Heroes in the sense that one is better than the other, and whenever we did discuss this topic, it was always about how much we hated to hear, “Oh, Forced Heroes is so much better than Legends of Dragonia,” or vice versa; Ironically, I’ve heard the latter a lot more than I have the former. Just stating a fact, not an opinion...
This goes straight back to what I was saying earlier. Is Legends of Dragonia better than Forced Heroes? Is Forced Heroes better than Legends of Dragonia?
When I started the YS RPG community, I built it on one foundation that I will hold, no matter how long I am around as a writer: Every RPG has the exact same chance of being as good, as bad, better or worse, or the same as another one. I made the community to bring those RPG’s that do still exist in a closer-knit community, where we can support each other. It is the same system as the affiliation program, but in another light.
The role-playing community is currently in a decline, where writers are not around as much to further the communities. This is typically because the ones that are around are based off of a popular craze-- Both Forced Heroes and Legends of Dragonia were based off of Dragon Ball Z RPG’s-- and when the craze dies down, the sources of where it was once popular diminish. The same thing happened to the first RPG I ever wrote on, Chibi Chibi RPG. One of my good friends once asked me, “What has happened to the quality of RPG’s nowadays?” It’s always better to have quality than quantity, and even though I am against saying one website is better than another, I am proud to say that Legends of Dragonia is one of the most active communities I have seen around. Go Team Dragonia! ;D
Like I said before, every RPG has the same potential of being as good, better, or worse than any other. For example, Richard and Jimmy’s RPG, Miasma Stream, is a different take on Legends of Dragonia and Forced Heroes. I was quite amazed the first time I looked around their forums, seeing a new take on the same systems that have been used in all three sites. When they asked me their opinions, I told both of them that [shameless plug]if it wasn’t for mebeing prideful and staying loyal only to my own site always so busy working on my own site, I would surely create a character and try out the new experience.[/shameless plug]
Now, some people might look at the site and say, “Pfft, that thing will never be as good as [insert RPG here]...” (And Yes, Rich, I’m joking when I say Miasma Stream will never be as good as Dragonia. Remember, sarcastic ego bigger than a whale? ;D) Legends of Dragonia was, at one time, a fledgling community that had only a few active members, but can you look at us now and see the improvements? Of course. Now, isn’t Miasma Stream capable of making the same improvements? Of course it is. Who knows? Maybe in a few years, Miasma Stream will become bigger and better than Legends of Dragonia ever has been!
In conclusion, I am going to officially add an unwritten law to Legends of Dragonia, in respect to all other role-playing communities, whether or not you participate in them or not. If you wish to be a respectable member of Legends of Dragonia, you must respect the fact that not every RPG is Legends of Dragonia. (If it was, you would find that we would have a communistic role-playing community-- In Soviet Russia, post write you! ^_^. ) You must promise to give every other RPG you participate the same respect you would give Legends of Dragonia. You will not object to anything, saying something like, “On Legends of Dragonia, we do things this way...” This actually does not help boost the name of our RPG; instead, you make us look bad, by saying that we are better than so and so for one reason or another. Of course, you can suggest changes, saying that it’s a tested system and does work, but do not try and make us look better, even if we are. This is a mere act of respect from me to the role-playing community, and anyone caught in violation of this rule will be in serious trouble by me.
Now that I’m doing laying down some good ‘ol Dragonian law, I’m going to tell you that I am planning on leaving Legends of Dragonia for some time, in order to further my life outside of the writing world...SIKE! Like I said before, I have no intention in leaving Legends of Dragonia. I’ve put too much of myself into this thing to just pack up and walk away on you all.
But, it’s about time I put this message to a close. I have finished saying most of the major things I have wanted to get off of my chest, but I want to go back to something I said earlier. Since it was probably four pages of writing ago, most of you may have forgotten this memo (;D), but nonetheless, here is the real reason I sat down and started writing this message: In fact, rather than you all thanking me forbeing the all-powerful Aiedan, who you should homage and want to father your child being the founder and current owner of Legends of Dragonia, everything should be the other way around: I should be thanking you.
I started Legends of Dragonia around three years ago, and originally, I meant for this site to be a way for all of my old friends back at Chibi Chibi RPG to have a place to come to. I succeeded when I found two of my friends, Crista and Mike, came back as new characters. But, between that time and the current day, we have seen at least seventy different members come and go. Some are less remembered-- Hayashi, Firecross, Alliane, Kevinsanya, and Scissorvein-- to members that have been around since who knows when, and who are as much “Legends of Dragonia” as I am-- Rizuk, Kiruna, Kilix, Hakuto, Gareeku, and Ryan. I’m sorry if I did not mention your name, but these are the names that come straight to mind when I reflect on good memories. Don’t think that I do not respect you, just because your not on my list. If I listed everyone that deserved credibility, I would need an additional post!
It is through this RPG that I have made one of the greatest friends of my life, and he knows this as well as I do. We can sit around for hours, calling each other names and poking fun at our differences. But in the end, I would easily consider this man a blood brother; we are so similar-- from our taste in women, to our fanatical obsession with Bon Jovi-- that we could be lost twins. One of the few laments I have is when I was in England, I could have had the chance to meet this man, and it never happened. He already knows who he is; he is the man who stands at my side as co-administrator. I owe a special thank you to this man, especially after all the bullshit I have put him through. He is probably the best friend I have right now. So, thank you for everything....homo...
But, turning back to Legends of Dragonia for a moment, I owe a special thanks to everyone out there who has somehow participated in this RPG. I have put three solid years of my life into making sure that everyone else would enjoy this as much as I always have. It’s gotten to the point that I dedicate all of my free time to talking to the members, writing, and furthering the RPG. I have had some tough times, and several times in the past, the RPG has been shut down due to lack of activity; however, no matter how long of a gap there was, the website always returned to full strength after a short period of time, and resumed in glory what used to be.
I’m not much of a bragger-- okay, that was a load of bullshit; people say I have the ego of a whale. We have run through some tough times, but we have always come on top. We just finished another successful saga, and right now, we have one of the more successful forums on this side of the role-playing community. I’m always hearing people ask me if they can use part of our website in inspiration to help further their own site, which in turn furthers the RPG community. With what started as a crappily-coded website on Freewebs, we now run an independent domain that hosts some of the best RPG’s out there.
I have no fortune teller, and I will never be able to tell you when I will be moving on from Legends of Dragonia. It may happen someday; or, it could just happen that I’ll always be here for my little RPG. I promised a friend of mine a long time ago, that as long as there is one member who is dedicated to Legends of Dragonia, (knowing Jimmy, there always will be-- even the admins are gone ;D) I will always try to be here and make sure Legends of Dragonia is open. That is my promise to you all; there may be tough waters ahead, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
Now, even though some people consider it one of the seven deadly sins, there is no shame in being prideful of some success-- there is a thing called humility. (Also, before anyone asks me what the difference between being prideful of the site and saying that our site is better than others, there is one....somewhere...) So, in conclusion, I am going to ask anyone out there who is proud to be a Dragonian, join me in this chant: Post it in this thread, display it in your avatar or signature. But show your Dragonian pride, and join me in this chant:
With love, friendship, and the desire to call certain Englishmen homo’s,

I suppose that the whole thing goes back to me being this thing called a webmaster. Still not figuring out what that had to do with it, I did some research on the word, and lo and behold, to my absolute surprise, I found out that the word comes from the Swedish word wëbmøsteir, which means “to be supremely awesome, above all life forms, the king of the hill, the awesome one, the big kahuna” absolutely nothing. Alas, Google had failed me for the first time in a thousand years, and so I sat back to figure why people placed me somewhere above the masses that surrounded me and my website.
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Now I’ll be the first to admit that when I first inherited TGA back in May 2001, I thought I was the bomb...and not one of those ordinary blue varieties. [deleted for relevance] I got caught up with all the hype of being a leader of the troops, a figurehead of the community. I thought that, on a random whim, I could change the world! I was faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall midgets with a single bound! [deleted for relevance] Being a webmaster was the best thing since sliced bread, the electric toothbrush, and the wheel combined! (Imagine that! Better than a clever device that you can eat, cleans your teeth, and gets you to school on time! Okay, nix that last part.)
And then I realized...why am I on this power trip? That’s not what I’m here to do. The only real draw to being a webmaster is having that boost of having name recognition...or what is more uglily called popularity. Believe it or not, [Seriyu] is not a guy who likes being the center of attention, and all of this being fawned over really got old pretty quickly. In the end, all I really wanted to accomplish was to share the passion that I had for [writing and role-playing] with other people, find and talk to a few special people who would later become such dear friends, and inevitably write stories...and none of this requires me championing a website to attain. Let me tell you, the glamour of the job is hardly what you expect it to be.
