Character Information:
Character's Name: Magnus “Archer” Archimedes
Character Race: Alchemist – Although biologically they are human, many ignorant people believe the Alchemists to be an entirely different species. As their title may suggest, Alchemists are those who are trained in the science of Alchemy; for more details, see the Class 3 Technique “Alchemy”.
Gender: Male
Hair Colour/Style: Archer’s hair is a rich chestnut brown, medium length, styled into two bangs which fall down over his forehead, and allowed to hang freely at the back. Somehow it always appears perfectly kept and clean, even in the midst of chaos.
Eye Colour: Light brown.
Age: 21
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 14stone, 3lbs
Aura Colour: N/A
Attire: Although he, obviously, changes his specific outfit almost constantly, his general style is almost entirely consistent: The most noticeable aspect of it being the floor length jacket, which he is never seen without. The jacket is a dark navy in colour, always worn open, with cuffs that flair out slightly. The edged are lined with an intricate golden design, the inner lining consisting of a thin, lighter blue silk. There are a number of pockets on the inside of the jacket, but none on the outside; just a single, flowing sheet of navy blue fabric. Underneath this, he is often seen wearing jeans or khaki trousers, usually laden with obvious, spacious pockets along the outside of the leg, and secured at his feet within the top of a thick set pair of boots. For his torso, he usually sticks with a plain white or grey tank-top, which sticks tightly to his figure. Across his waist he wears a simple utility belt, with a number of strips, both horizontal and vertical, in which to hold or hook certain items. The sphere of metal known as Archangel always hangs on a chain from the left side of this belt; the right side being where he keeps his vials of water required for another technique. The other slots contain a variety of items, which change almost constantly. In addition, to close the entire ensemble, he wears a pair of thin, brown gloves; thick enough to provide immediate protection from small hazards such as splinters, yet thin and malleable enough to provide no hindrance to his dexterity.
Other Physical Features:
Archer could never be called a small man (a fact which he takes great pleasure in telling the ladies); not only does his height bring him a step above most, but due to his years of relentless training of his body and mind, his muscles are all extremely toned; not to the extent that it makes him disproportional, but obvious enough to put many ‘toned’ men to shame. His facial features lie on the subtle line between being a pretty boy and a rugged man, and both he and many others have commented on his physical attractiveness. Besides these simple facts, however, there is very little to separate Archer from any other early-twenties human male.
Abilities:
Class I:
- Enhanced Speed (via intense training)
Original Class I:
Chalk – Archer always carries an emptied cigarette pack with him wherever he goes, which he has filled with 10 sticks of plain white chalk, sized similarly to the object’s they are replacing. There is nothing special about this chalk, and he regularly keeps it updated and replaced when previous sticks have been used or broken; the purpose of these sticks is that chalk will make a mark upon almost any surface; it can even leave a dusty trail on the surface of water; and as such, it is the ideal substance for the on-the-move Alchemist, who is now able to create a Transmutation Circle almost anywhere he chooses.
Pocket Knife – Although on first thought, the 2 ½ inch blade length pocket knife that Archer carries on his belt seems to be for immediate protection, the purpose is completely other; Archer knows that he does not need a knife to protect himself on close quarters. The purpose of the knife is to allow for a Transmutation Circle to, if needs be, be engraved on a surface. In some situations, chalk just won’t cut the mustard, and a stronger means must be used. In these situations, Archer’s pocket knife comes into play.
Class II:
Archangel – The Archangel is the signature weapon carried by the Archimedes Household; even those who are appalled by violence in all its forms are required to carry one, more as a symbol of house than as a weapon. The Archangel is, in its dormant form, simply a spherical lump of metal; its radius is a mere 2½ inches, but its chemical structure sets it apart from this simple appearance. The Archangel Sphere is a combination of a number of metals, packed into an incredibly dense mixture; it contains steel, iron, silver, bronze, magnesium, a small core of mercury, as well as increasingly small amounts of other metals; the result is a dully silver sphere, aesthetically similar to a cannonball. However, upon its surface lies an intricate design; the Archangel Transmutation Circle. When activated, the metals expand and rearrange, rapidly forming a slim, yet sharp and sturdy sword. The blade is 5ft, the handle an extra 1ft. The hilt of the sword consists of a silver coil with an inlaid golden twist, leading up to a pair of silver angel’s wings, from which the blade itself sprouts. The blade is where most of the metals within Archangel are found; however, the combination results in the weapon being deceivingly light. The small amount of mercury found in the core of the sphere now resides at the tip of the blade; this naturally liquid metal known for its poisonous qualities. Extending exposure to the tip of the blade would naturally result in the classic ‘poison’ feeling, especially if it has pierced the skin and gained immediate access to the bloodstream. To return the Archangel Sword to its dormant form, the user must inscribe the transmutation circle upon it themselves; usually meaning that once activated in the heat of battle, it can’t be easily returned until a peaceful moment arises.
Circle of the Right Eye: Degenerative Wink – The theory behind this ability is sketchy at best, even to the greatest minds in Alchemy, and it is unknown whether it is hidden genius or sheer fluke that allows Archer’s manifestation of it to work so consistently (although it is generally agreed to be the latter). The premise lies in a transmutation circle, which has been tattooed onto the eyelid of the Alchemist in question. When their eyes are open, the circle is broken, as the crumpling of the skin of the eyelid causes it to simply become a mesh of lines; at Archer’s request, the circle was tattooed in white ink as opposed to black. The colour of the circle matters not for the reaction, but a white circle means that it is not immediately noticeable against the pale colour of the skin. However, when the eye is closed, the skin of the eyelid is pulled taut, causing the circle to become complete as it returns to the shape in which it was originally applied to the skin. The reason the theory behind this is sketchy is down to control; theoretically, as the circle is applied on the body of the user, the circle can be activated at will whenever the eye is closed. However, the most stable medium for alchemical activation has always been the hands, so control over the activation is generally unstable. Also, the practice of this technique lies in the circle not needing to touch the transmuted substance. Although this can generally be controlled by concentrating thought on the object in question, the vagueness behind it can easily lead to accidents in use. However, if for no other reason than common use, it seems that Archer is becoming a leading expert in this field. The advantages of the ability are that it is very hard to become in a situation where the move can be restrained; unless the eyelid is forcibly kept open (or in extreme cases, removed), it is nearly impossible to stop someone from closing their eyes. The circle which Archer has had applied to his eyelid represents the process of rapid degeneration; when activated, the transmutation begins to break down a substance on an atomic level, most usually causing it to become a powdered form of itself. The applications of this ability are vast; whether it’s to create a hole in a wall, break a restraining shackle or chain, or disrupt or destroy an incoming projectile attack. (However, Archer has admitted on occasion that his original intent for the ability was to be able to undress a woman just by winking at her once.)
Hydrogen Bomb – This is one of the most simple, yet most effective abilities in Archer’s offensive arsenal. On his belt, he carries five glass vials, each containing roughly 300ml of water. Using Alchemy, he has formed the glass into a sealed, hemispherical-topped cylinder, and upon each container there are two transmutation circles carved. When needed, Archer swipes a finger across both circles, activating them, and throws the vial. The first circle causes a transmutation of the water, separating the oxygen and hydrogen molecules into a mixture of gasses. The second causes transmutation of the glass, causing it to become denser, and as such decrease in size. The glass continues to shrink until the combined gas becomes too compacted, and puts up a resistance, causing the glass to crack. At this point, even a tiny spark (which is inevitable when the frigid substance of glass is rubbing against itself in such a dense form) causes the gasses within to ignite; the combination of burning oxygen and extreme pressure causing the hydrogen to explode violently, usually with a blast radius of between 1 to 3 metres—with the addition of a few shards of shrapnel. Although he only carries five at a time, if Archer has access to a supply of water and glass of any description, then it is a matter of ease to create spares when the time requires it.
Transmutation Stickers – These were a product of Archer’s own imagination; one of the major disadvantages of Alchemy used in pressurised situations is in the precision needed in the Transmutation Circle for an effective alchemical reaction. To combat this, Archer designed the Transmutation Sticker system; basically, they are exactly as they sound. The transmutation circle in question is inked onto a piece of thin, clear plastic, and then a compound of Archer’s own devising is applied to the clear areas remaining on the plastic; the compound is a transparent, thin film, which acts like a strong adhesive under sudden pressure. When applied rapidly to a surface, the compound glues the sticker to the substance in question, while the transparent plastic and black circle marking upon it give the same result as drawing the circle directly onto the surface to which it is now affixed. As of yet, Archer has only been able to perfect one type of Transmutation Sticker, but he is constantly working on the project in order to perfect more shortcut transmutations.
Transmutation Stickers: Circle of Immediate Defence – The first type of Transmutation Sticker that Archer has perfected has a simple, yet effective, purpose. When applied to a large, solid structure such as a wall, ceiling, or even the ground, the Transmutation Circle causes the immediate area it is applied to (about 1ft width) to become more dense and expand outwards by about 10ft; in order to achieve Equivalent Exchange, the surrounding wall for about 5ft either side becomes less dense, as the particles of mass are taken from there and added to the newly expanded barrier that has been created; quite obviously, when taken from a wall, floor, or such, this ability creates a large, dense barrier between Archer and whatever may require blocking, which is impenetrable by most medium-sized attacks.
Class III:
Alchemy – The basis of all of Archer’s powers, Alchemy is first and foremost a science. All deviations of this science are based upon the one, unifying law of Equivalent Exchange. To gain something, something of equal value must be sacrificed. Beyond this, the applications of Alchemy are almost boundless; “Transmutation” is the act of altering one compound into another, or increasing/decreasing the density of an already existing one. To transmute something, one must draw a Transmutation Circle upon the object in question; or, as some advanced Alchemists have perfected, the circle can be drawn upon something else, and then applied to surface in question, most commonly and easily used on the hands. The complexity of the circle varies with the task required of it, but they can range from a simple circle intersected by a triangle, to a seemingly infinite union of shapes. As well as the unifying law of Equivalent Exchange, there are two more aspects to Alchemy that are, although not impossible in alchemical terms, generally forbidden, at least a large taboo subject. These are that one should never transmute Gold (this is simply so as to not throw the economy of the given Alchemist’s culture into chaos), and to never attempt Human Transmutation. When looking at Human’s in a scientific sense, we establish that a Human is made of three parts; The Body, The Mind, and the Soul. The human body can be accounted for with Equivalent Exchange, but there has yet to be a successful human transmutation of public knowledge, and the consequences surrounding those who attempt it are unfavourable even upon your enemies. However, these laws aside, Alchemy can be used for almost any purpose the user desires; some of which have been listed above, but most can only be accounted for on the spur of the moment.

Personality: What most people initially notice about Archer is his apparent arrogance; he comes across easily as a bit pretentious, with a level of confidence and vanity that borders upon the unhealthy; a decent example of this being his self-given nickname, reducing the obviously upper-class “Magnus Archimedes” to a much more approachable “Archer”. However, beneath this thick layer of pretentious bullshit, there lies the warm, fuzzy centre of a not-quite-so-pretentious man (It’s difficult to have an essentially noble bloodline and not have at least a smidgeon of the upper class lifestyle left in you.) However, on bare essentials, he is a good man; as an Alchemist, he finds it as a duty and a privilege to help those in need, using his skills to better his community. He has his morals and values, and always sticks to his convictions under any circumstance.
Origins: Magnus never really knew which he found more enthralling; Sciences, or History. As such, it was only natural how he came to find his Idol in life...
But first, I think, a bit more needs to be known over his background. It is fairy self-evident that Alchemy is not a science known over the whole planet of Dragonia, as it is on some other planets, but it is certainly an actively studied science; you just have to know where to look. It can be as few as one or two, or as many as a hundred or more, but in almost every major city, you can find Alchemists if you try hard enough. There are some that act in freelance independence, but many belong to one of the Three Noble Houses; Archimedes, Descartes and Theano. All three houses have a long history of alchemical development, as well as always residing in the upper-class of society. Magnus is the 12th Son of Erik Archimedes, Head of the Archimedes Household.
As such, he had access to almost any information he could want at his fingertips. In his pursuit of scientific and historical knowledge, he learnt one name which reoccurred consistently through the documents concerning history within the last 50 years. A scientific genius who came from the far reaches of space, down to Dragonia, and worked wonders in defending the planet and its people, as well as advancing Dragonian technology by years: the Liixan, Kilix Gyro.
“Archer”, as Magnus soon came to call himself, was enthralled by the unparalleled technology of the Liixans, spending endless nights reading about Kilix and his background. However, from his research, he saw instantly that the planet of Dragonia—or at least, his little part of it—held one major advantage over this superpower of technology in the universe; the science of Alchemy.
He spent countless hours perfecting his arts as an alchemist, as well as training his mind, both in a technological and historical aspect. He learnt of the Saiyan Invasion, which took place when he was a mere baby, and of many independent struggles between the planet and its enemies, some of which were little more than an urban myth. However, this extended period of peace in which we reside today, if anything, worried Archer. One major thing the history books had taught him was that it always repeats itself; peace is never maintained.
As an Alchemist, he knew his duty was first and foremost to act in the needs of the public; and as he saw it, this was the best solution: In secret, he left his home town, and journeyed to the mountains of Bedoe to train, alone. For years he fought in solitude, attuning his body and mind together as one, so that when danger came down upon their unfortunate little planet, he would be prepared.
