(HERE! WE BUILD HERE!
......................... Well, I do. I dunno about you people! Im starting here now. Wait... people...? WHO ARE ALL OF YOU?! DONT TOUCH MY COOKIES! THEY MIIIIIINE! You speak LIES!)
It was late, and her hours had grown long nearing the proto-completion of this project, and Dr. Alkai was left alone with the fruits of her labors to finish these last, most delicate pieces of the puzzle, sew up the last stitch in her greatest creation, so to speak.
A slow, careful twist of her caliper, then a somber silence, broken only by the sound of heat hitting metal when her torch hit the alloys her creation had been crafted from, spraying sparks like showers of dragonfire in the dimly lit room. Her clothes were full of holes, her arms sore, her eyes acheing, but onward she worked. One hour's work was followed by another and preceded by many others like it, and seemed to make little progress. Computer science and all those long, boring engineering classes she had aced in college were almost worthless to her in this project; She felt like a child trying to fix her father's house with a plastic hammer and nails made of rubber, for how much good she was doing... but her superiors made orders, and she followed them.
She was the one they charged to put in the power source, the heart of Project Pariah... literally. Dr. Alkai was the foremost in the field of advanced military research, the one who had worked hardest at and knew most about this project, so it was only fitting. She had a career ahead of her to look foreward, a big, fat-cat military contract....
