(OOC: Once more, a collab of mine and Ryan's. 'Nuff said!)
“Good news. I come straight from a conversation with our higher-ups. We’ve been given thumbs-up on out little project. Start preparations.” The man who spoke these words just entered a large, white room, full of people in lab coats, scurrying about, obviously working intensely. Difeza, however, stood out amongst the laboratory workers, his intimidating black military uniform coming in sharp contrast with the entire room.
“We have already prepared all the necessary devices and samples. As it stands, we are ready to go.” The only man who seemed to pay attention to the burly captain was a tall, slender and clearly weathered man, whose head was barely tinted white, due to his very scarce white hair.
“Well, then, what are we waiting for? Start the procedure!” Difeza said, looking at Dr. Drez with confusion and crossing his arms. “Start it now!” The aggravation in his voice was apparent. Must he do everything himself?
The elderly doctor, however, had his concerns. “We have not made enough experiments to go ahead with a human testing yet Difeza. There are too many unknowns, too many dangers. Instead of the desired effect, the bacteria might achieve the opposite! Or it could outright kill the person! I have to protest with thi-“
“I am very sorry, Dr. Drez, but that was NOT a request.” he interrupted, simply cracking his knuckles. “Also, I would like to hear your suggestions concerning other test subjects. Do you know many chipmunks with a high power level? Because I don’t.”
Nathaniel Drez, however, could not leave this to chance. Boldly ignoring the muscular soldier’s blatant threat, he shook his head in protest. “No. We’re not ready for human testing just yet. These life forms are very delicate and yet extremely potent. There has not been enough research in what happens to it in more turbulent weather. Also, its effects on organic beings have not been studied thoroughly enough. We need more time. At least a year.”
With an irritated sigh Capt. Gordon Difeza reached inside of his vest, pulled free a matching black pistol with several inscriptions done in silver, aimed and discharged the firearm. The bullet entered Dr. Drez’s skull right between his eyes, and tore out the opposite end, the violent force splattering blood and brain matter on numerous machines and workers, found behind Dr. Drez at the moment of his death. Looking on at the dead biologist with certain evil glee, Difeza placed the gun back into its holster and looked on to a much younger doctor, whose silence and immobility for all this time would keep most anyone from noticing his presence. “Now, Dr. Hipton...” Difeza said as he eyed the young man for a moment. “You don’t agree with the late Dr. Drez... do you now?” A sinister smirk crept onto his face as he spoke, clearly seeing the fear in the young Hipton’s eyes.
His arms trembling ever so slightly, sweat covering and trickling down his brow, Steven Hipton struggled to make his mouth move. “I... I... uh... yes... I mean... I mean... no... I do not agree.” He replied and swallowed his saliva, which had suddenly begun flowing into his mouth uncontrollably. Looking at the gore covering his previously white coat, he felt an almost painful churning in his stomach, when he suddenly fell to his knees and vomited severely. He was a biologist... he had become a doctor not to be involved in the violence of this world... why?
Difeza grimaced at the sight. “Good God, man. What is wrong with you people? A trickle of blood, a splash of brain and you’re already losing your lunch. Pathetic.” He said, rolling his eyes. ”But I’m glad we can see eye-to-eye on all of this. Would you care to do the honors?“ With that, the military man motioned towards a large glass booth in the middle of the laboratory. Wiping the vomit from the corners of his mouth, Dr. Hipton nodded wearily and got to his feet, though his gait remained wobbly for quite some time after this.
The laboratory was enormous, no less than twenty feet measured from the floor to the ceiling, while the walls were distant enough from each other to give great expanse to facilitate the needs of most anyone inhabiting it. It appeared that several projects, perhaps experiments were being conducted at once in this place, so the sheer size of the facility wasn’t going to waste, yet it seemed as if a large majority of the manpower available was being focused in the center of the room, busy with the various panels and machines, which surrounded the glass prison, which stood as a gleaming centerpiece for the entire laboratory.
Within the relatively small glass room back and forth paced a young woman. Her very long, gracious dark hair swayed in the wake of her movements. Her extremely tight-fitting lilac attire seemingly stuck to her body, flaunting her delicate yet curvaceous and tempting body. As she trudged within her glass prison, her distress and anger were visible to the naked eye. It was more than likely that her frustration was rooted in the situation she was now in, most probably not of her volition.
“Oooh, I see you have already collected a specimen, as I ordered, Dr.” Difeza said, a pleased smile on his face as he admirably examined the woman before him.
“Yes... just... as you ordered.” Hipton replied, his eyes searching the floor for something he had obviously misplaced. Most probably his backbone.
“Give me her stats then, man, we haven’t got all day!” Difeza half-shouted, his face turned to Dr. Hipton, while his eyes were still fixed on the beauteous creature behind the glass. ”She IS a thing of wonder...” he mumbled under his breath, though nobody heard him.
“Her name is Hitomi Kahaya. She’s eighteen years of age, weighs roughly one hundred and ten pounds, and stands five feet, seven inches tall. She has no known use of Ki energy but she has an extremely high energy level within her, though most of her potential is untapped, it seems. I believe she is a specimen just like you asked.” Dr Hipton stated, reading his notes from his notepad, his voice slowly returning to normal, not the quiet, shivering whispering he had been doing up to now. “But that’s not even the best part about this subject…” as he spoke those words, his eyes quickly darted from the notepad in his hands to Difeza’s face, searching for a reaction.
Difeza smirked, cocking his head to the side as he kept looking on at the young Hitomi. “Oh? Then what would the best part be?” Tilting his head in to the other side, he chuckled to himself. “I think I could name a few...” he murmured once more, his thoughts obviously tracing beyond his assignment.
“This woman, Hitomi Kahaya, is one of Dragonia’s legendary heroes.” Dr. Steven Hipton said that with a special pride, already forgetting his fear and shame of moments ago. Life is for those who could adapt. The others die. That is a scientific fact.
“Well, well, well…” The man known here only as Captain Difeza slowly made his way towards the glass booth, stopping only when his nose was several inches from touching the see-through frame. “It seems our guest is a tad restless today.”
Turning her attention to Difeza, Hitomi charged forward, in what little space she had, and punched the glass directly in front of his face, to which Difeza didn’t react in the least. Her clenched fist remained against pressed against the incredibly sturdy glass, as she glared at the man before her, while he stared back, an unnerving smirk on his lips, her eyes burned full of rage. Hitomi’s voice was did not break through the density of the glass, leaving the impression that she was some sort of mime, but it was rather obvious that she was angrily shouting profanities at Difeza through the glass.
“My, my…someone has a dirty mouth, don‘t they?”
Behind the man, just off to his right, Dr Hipton quickly moved about, preparing the machinery needed for their experiment, his fingers flying across the consoles and pressing buttons faster than a monkey in heat. Inserting a hollow glass empty tube into a special slot in the panel before him, which was connected to a short pipe system leading to the glass booth, Hipton double-checked all the displays and the various numbers and parameters they showed, before making some calculations in his head and pressing some more buttons and turning some knobs. “And…we’re…ready!” he exclaimed, obviously already accustomed to his boss, while the blood of Nathaniel was still warm on his coat. He gave the thumbs-up to Difeza, who had just turned around and looked in his general direction.
“Good…” The large man unhurriedly moved over towards the computer which Dr Hipton operated, before glancing at Hitomi once more. “Sweet dreams, little girl... Don’t worry, I’ll make sure that nothing VERY bad happens to you while you’re out.” As an evil, frightening joy appeared in his eyes, Difeza’s fingers traced the console before him, then pressed the Big Red Button.
As soon as the button was pressed, the gas within the tube that Dr Hipton had connected to the glass prison was instantly transferred into Hitomi’s prison, a low humming noise appearing as the air conditioners were switched on, and the gas was lead in. With nowhere for her to run, leaving no uncontaminated air for her to draw breath from, all Hitomi could do was hold her breath for as long as she could, but that would not save her. Little more than two minutes late she finally gasped, her lungs screaming for air, which they got. What she did not know, however, was that the bacteria living in the gas being fed to her didn’t require oral ingestion, the pores in her skin were enough for them to seep in and begin their work. As the seconds ticked on, Hitomi’s body became extremely limp, her shoulders slouching and knees buckling, before she suddenly collapsed, unconscious.
“Perfect, it works!” Difeza shouted, victorious, after making sure that her life signs were still stable and she was not, in fact, dead.
Pushing the glasses on his face a bit higher, Dr. Hipton went on to examine the test results, so as to draw the necessary conclusions. “Once released into the air the toxin directly homed in on her abnormally high power signature... it took a total of one hundred-thirty-three seconds for the bacteria to achieve the goal, after entering her body. However, we believe that with a little more research, we might shorten the time necessary to a single-digit number. Dr. Nagata has been making considerable progress in multiplying the already potent powers of our Snow-White 1.”
“Excellent... as soon as he finishes with his work, test it once again. If your test is successful, begin growth of the bacteria en masse. I want enough to cover the entire globe by the end of the month.” Difeza said, crossing his arms as a smug smile beamed from him all the way to the sleeping Hitomi.
“Th- ...the entire globe?” Dr. Hipton stuttered, slightly concerned for the Captain’s grand plans.
The smile on Difeza’s face disappeared as he turned back to Steven, his eyes grim with determination. “Do I have to repeat myself, Hipton? No? Good. Now get to work... before I lose this nice streak that I’m on.”
