"I am as well, Kihaku," her emotionless gaze watching the skyline. So many things were running through her mind. It wasn't long after the initial shock that she put up a guard to herself the only way she knew how; to block out all sense of emotion. Her mind flashed back.
***********
They were sitting in the open farming fields, close to a small village. Shota, being twelve years old and already six feet tall, sat, her legs pulled up to her chest. Beneath her was a large square blue blanket, which held a few plates of food. Shota had on a crisp and clean white dress that seemed to radiate pure empathy and love from her smiling, cheerful face as she watched her little brother run around the tall grass.
"Chameleon!" A woman yelled, sitting on the blanket next to Shota. The woman older and much shorter than Shota waved her hand, a bright smile on her face as well. She looked identical to Shota, though with shorter, greying hair. "Chameleon Roughnight, come here and eat your food before your father eats it all for you!"
Behind the woman stood a giant of a man, large frame, looked as if he could pick up an elephant, standing at a height of 6 foot 8 inches, but there was a happiness in his green eyes to show that he wouldnt hurt a fly.
Chameleon's 10 year old head bobbed up and down in the grass, jumping every once in a while to see where his family was. He emerged from the grass, laughing in happiness. He ran up to the blanket and threw himself onto the top before his plate smiling up at his sister, who was smiling back.
"Shota, you should see some of the animals in the grass, they are amazing," he said taking a bite of his food.
"Of course, Chameleon." She spoke as she ruffled the boy's head. She loved her little brother so dearly, his fascination with everything, his constant happiness and smile, it was almost intoxicating. Her smile seemed almost brighter than the crisp white color of her dress, a moment of complete happiness and content with everything.
--- "What happened KIhaku? Why are you apologizing to Ms.Shota?" ---
***********
The voice of Shizuka brought her out of her memory of better days. Her hands were folded in front of her black dress, an emotional gaze looked down to the Angelic girl.
"It's nothing child," Shota said turning to her, leaning low as to look in her eyes. "You seem to be doing better," she said, though there was no hint of relief or even the warm smile that Shota had given the girl earlier. Just a blank, almost uncaring stare.
