Sofia walked in not bothering with a light, she was use to the dark. She sat on the bed and took off her mask. With a sigh she laid back on the soft bed. “So what happens now? Where am I going to?” She set the mask aside and went to draw a bath. While the water ran she scouted for a bottle of anything. When she found not one bottle she sighed in frustration, “Cruse it all.” Making her way to the bathroom she stripped and soaked herself in the steamy water. She watched the bubbles as they circled her fingers and toes. She then took the soap and worked in her hair. She loved being clean and the bath felt so refreshing to her. Once her body and hair was clean she started on her wings. She didn’t come out till the water grew cold. With a white fluffy towel she dried herself and wrapped it around her tiny frame.
She opened her window and watched they people dancing and socializing in the street. She leaned into her hand and smiled as people danced in a pattern. The music was jolly and jumpy. Sofia had an eager to clap along with the others. The town and lights glittered, made her feel she was in a different world. She looked to the stars and smiled as they twinkled at her. The moon was full and beautiful in the dark waves of clouds and river of stars.
She then noticed the people dwindling down and the suns rays reaching to the sky. She then changed into her dress again and moved to go downstairs. When she reached the dinning hall. Only a few people were left. She sat close to the fire and asked a requested at simple meal. “I’d like some hot rum cider and bread spread with honey please.”
“Yes, miss.” She waited by the fire when she felt a tug at her dress. She turned to a little girl and smiled. “Why hello there and who are you?” She girl smiled and shook her head. “Where’s your mummy and daddy, eh?” The girl didn’t look to be even three. Sofia took the girl and set her on her lap.
“What is your name then?”
“Mary.”
“Oh, what a beautiful name for such a pretty little girl.”
"I like your mask..."
"Oh thank you, I like yours."
She laughed, "Im not wearing one."
"Oh how silly of me."
Sofia looked about and saw no one. When the waitress came back with her food she asked where the girl’s parents were. “Probably where all the others are, in bed asleep.” Sofia gave her a hard look then turned away. “Well, you can stay with me if you like till your mummy wakes up. I don’t you wandering around with this drunken lot.” The girl ate some of her breakfast and smiled playing with her mask. Sofia smiled in turn and asked, “Would you like to hear a story?” Mary nodded and gave the angel her full attention. Sofia sighed and looked at the ceiling,
“Humm, a story. What kind of story.” She smiled and looked at Mary. “How bout the love story of an angel. It was long, long ago, there were two pure hearted and kind angels who were the best of friends. They did everything together. Painted sunsets, hung stars in the sky, and jumped on rain clouds till they were dry.” She pulled Mary’s hair away from her sticky face of honey and crumbs. “They were a bony pair they were. But one day, one of the angels meet the devil. He was cold hearted and evil, he had never loved anybody before. But he fell in love at first sight of the delicate angel. They knew their love would destroy them both but they could stop their feelings. Their love was pure and true, it let up like fire.” Sofia stopped as if she were remembering something. Mary tugged at her to hear more and she smiled. “Sorry, was I, oh yes. The angel showed the devil to love and to see beauty. In turn the devil was kind and protected her from any danger. But sadly their love was not meant to last. The time came were their love ended. The angel’s life was in danger because she was in love with the devil. The other angel realized this and planed to kill the devil to save her friend. She cared so much for her companion she would kill to protect her. So one night she sent for the devil. She told him to leave her friend and en their love. He refused and the angel struck the devil down and killed him. The angel killed the devil the weight of her first sin she committed and the joy of being able to protect her dear friend twisted her heart and made her go mad.” She looked at Mary who waited for what happened next. “Maybe this isn’t a proper story for a girl your age.” She shook her head. “More, more, what did the angel do?” Sofia sighed. “The angel went her friend and told her what happened. Her friend cried and cried and cried, till no more tears could come. She missed the devil terribly and never forgave her friend for what she did. The mad angel turned evil and God sent her away to live alone for the rest of her days. What they didn’t know was the devil was reborn, but wasn’t the same man he was before. This devil was heartless and hated all angels and their goodness. The end. ” Mary frowned and crossed her little arms over her chest. “Not good story.” She pouted. “I’m sorry dearly.” Sofia herd shouts of Mary’s name and set her down. With a pat on the head she swat her butt lightly to go back to her mum and dad. With a sigh she turned to the fire with her cup and drank. Would she be able to forget him. Or would she turn to dispaer or mad? She stared into the fire for awhile till people started to crowd the room. She stood and made her way back to her room.
She smiled when she reached the top of the stirs and saw Father Nightingale at her door. She crossed her arms and nodded. “I never slept, Father. Your coat looks wonderful, if I may say so. I guess you slept little as well to make such a fine costume.” She approached him and tilted her head. “You smell a lot better.” She said with a laugh. “Will we tour the city then?” She had on the same dress as before but kept her hair down and wild with curls; since the day was bright and sunny there was no need for a hood. “Or would you want breakfast first?” she asked with a smiled for him.
